Supervision

Supervision is available to Members of GS Medical Group and a unique benefit of membership.  Supervision is entirely based on the member's own practice as an Expert and entails for the first time in the UK the supervision of "real " cases under instruction. Supervision is only available to Members prior to the Member’s evidence being submitted.

Supervision applies to the three main criteria of practice.

GS Medical Group requires at least three supervised cases as a condition of ongoing membership.  Supervision is available by private arrangement either in person or via video link subject to the Groups’ terms and conditions.

Supervision is provided subject to the explicit consent of the parties., on the Expert’s own practice, using the Expert’s own workload and although occasionally cases where the instructions have been placed elsewhere may also be used as a supervised case, provided they are of educational value and appropriate in terms of the complexity of the case, the Group  does not act as an Agency. All cases under the Supervision are defined as a Training Case.

The provision is subject to the Group’s Terms and Condition and subject to the payment of the required fee. The provision is entirely discretionary and the responsibility for providing medical evidence regardless of the Supervision they receive as part of their training including all the opinions and conclusions that the Experts reach or that they are provide to the Courts either orally or in writing, rests always with the Experts themselves.

Supervision is also available in cases where the Expert’s services are provided under Legal Aid or on a “pro bono “basis subject to the Group’s Terms and Conditions, always in a generic and anonymised form and subject to the Group’s Terms and Conditions..

Supervision which is compliant with Rule 35 of the Civil Procedures Rules Is defined by GS Medical as an educational activity which unlike “coaching“ which is prohibited, does not entail the provision of material guidance or assistance   or the provision of a second opinion and is indeed diametrically  opposite to “coaching” .

Supervision under GS Medical Group is available to Experts outside the mandatory training cases on demand on a case-by-case basis, subject to the Group’s Terms and Conditions.

A supervision Session lasts one hour but up to three sessions per case may be arranged on a case by case basis, covering all aspects of practice.

Opportunities for observed practice including by video conferencing may arise from time to time where in exceptional circumstances arrangements may be made to this effect  on a case by case basis, subject to the explicit consent of the parties.
